BRATISLAVA
BRATISLAVA City Gallery presents an almost complete collection of prints by Belgian artist James Ensor (1860-1949). His unique portrayals of grotesque humanity made him a principal precursor of 20th-century expressionism and surrealism. Typical for the work of the great artist, who was never fully accepted as a painter during his life, are grotesque, masked and semi-fantastic scenes. Symbols of death are often present in his work. The display also shows a print alternative to his famous large canvas Christ's Entry Into Brussels. The exhibition in the Mirbach palace at Františkánske námestie 11 is open daily except Monday between 11:00 and 18:00 until June 19. Tickets cost Sk80. For more information call 02/5443-1556.
