Bratislava's Danubiana hosts two exhibitions, Paintings,
by avant-garde Spanish artist José Alfonso Morera Ortiz El Hortelano
(The Gardener), and New Stuff from Slovak painter Marek Ormandík.
El Hortelano's selection offers the best works the versatile artist has
created over the last 20 years. His paintings are monumental in terms
of colours used, dynamic compositions and in particular the painting
technique. El Hortelano, a protagonist of the legendary Madrid art scene
that generated some groundbreaking artists, including movie director Pedro
Almodóvar, uses bricklayers' tools and mixes waxes, rosins, strings, glass,
soil and other natural materials.
Large heads and figures gaze at visitors from Ormandík's latest works.
The Slovak artist, who likes to paint with wide strokes of the paintbrush and
uses sharp colours, approaches the theme of heads from the imprint of Christ's
face on the Torino shroud.
The New Stuff exhibition is open until March 12, El Hortelano's Paintings closes
March 19. The Danubiana Modern Art Museum at the Čunovo Water Works is
open daily except Monday between 10:00 and 18:00. Tickets cost Sk60.

The best freestyle skiers from Central Europe meet at the big K2 Freeskiing Challenge 2006 show in Park Snow Donovaly ski resort on January 21. They will stun the audiences with the best acrobatic jumps in their repertoire. Registration for competitors starts at 8:30. Between 10:00 and 11:30 the skiers can practise their jumps before the one-hour qualification starting at noon. The start of the final is planned for 13:30.
