Jiří Stivín, a versatile Czech musician who specialises in wind instruments, especially the flute, will celebrate the Year of Mozart in Bratislava on June 13 at 19:30. "I would like to pay tribute to Mozart not only by performing his works well but by improvising a bit for his greater fame," said the artist. The Bohdan Warchal Slovak Chamber Orchestrawill accompany him. The centerpiece of the concert will be the Mozart Quodlibet, a playful collage of well-known extracts from Mozart's compositions. A performance of the Bratislava men's choir Aureus Cantus and soprano Katarína Löfflerová with Czech organist Petr Kolař will enrich the first part of the concert. Tickets for the concert, which takes place in the Veľký evanjelický kostol (Great evangelic church) at Panenská ulica, cost Sk200 and Sk150. The concert will repeat in Piešťany's Dom umenia (Art house) on June 27 at 19:30. For more information, call 02/5932-7716.

The Ján Koniarek Gallery (GJK) in Trnavahosts two exhibitions. Its premises in the Koppel Manor House hold Supernova, an exhibition of 14 contemporary British artists. A supernova is a stellar explosion, the result of which is a destruction of the star, or its radical transformation. In this case, the name points out a certain "failure" of modernism and its transformation from the viewpoint of younger artists. The exhibition brings large-scale geometric compositions by Gary Hum, Sarah Morris and Toby Ziegler, an architectonical object from aluminium and perplex by Liam Gillick, videos by Jane and Luise Wilson and Haluk Akakce and computer interactive animations by Dan Norton. Within the second display, New Yorker Thomas Lail created exactly for the space of the Synagogue, the Centre of Contemporary Art, Sanctuary Intersect project. It references the idea of the traditional Jewish structure called a sukkah - a temporary outdoor construction built for the week of feast that follows Yom Kippur. Both exhibitions run until July 2. Kopplov Kaštieľ (The Koppel Manor House) at Zelený kríček 3 is open Tue-Fri between 10:00 and 18:00 and Sat-Sun between 13:00 and 18:00. The synagogue at Halenárska 2 is open Tue-Fri 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00, Sat-Sun 13:00-18:00. Tickets cost Sk20. For more information, call 033/5514-657.
