THE RECENTLY opened Bratislava JAZZ Club in the Astorka
Korzo '90 theatre will host Slovak Acoustic Colours and
Hungarian formation UNIT-Gábor Gado Band on January
29. The club's ambition is to gradually introduce contemporary
Slovak jazz talents. Acoustic Colours, set up by Michal Vavro
and Stano Palúch as an instrumental grouping, combines elements
of various musical genres - jazz, new acoustic, bluegrass and Slovak
folk. During the evening at the Astorka percussionist and drummer
Igor Sabo and bassist Juraj Griglák join the duo. Tickets cost Sk150.

DRAUGHT horses and their drivers will compete in various disciplines in the Winter Competition for Hriňová's Fujara. The event takes place in Hriňová, near Detva, on Januray 28. A ceremonial march through the central-Slovak town will open the event at 8:30. Drivers will register themselves and their horses for competition at 9:30. Afterwards the horses will compete in a slalom race and drawing of logs. Visitors will select the most beautiful pair and the best horse driver of the day, who will be awarded Hriňová's fujara, a long wooden musical instrument.
