THE BRATISLAVA City Gallery has prepared an untraditional exhibition of art works from private collections called The Passion of Collectors. The display, subtitled Slovak Fine Arts 1957-1970, offers masterpieces from the Golden Era of Modernism that were forbidden during the previous totalitarian regime. Many Slovak fine artists from the 1960s collected prestigious awards at world events, but the communists banned all of them from presenting their work during the 1970s. They were also cut off from official contracts. Collectors were the only ones to buy their artwork and provide them with a living. The exhibition presents 92 works. For some, this is their world premiere, as they have never been presented in public before. The list of 39 exhibiting artists includes Andrej Barčík, Rudolf Fila, Jozef Jankovič, Alojz Klimo, Viera Kraicová, Milan Laluha, Rudolf Krivoš, Milan Paštéka, Agneša Sigetová, Rudolf Sikora, and Jana Želibská. The exhibition is open daily except Monday between 11:00 and 18:00 until April 15. The gallery is located in the Mirbach Palace at Františkánske Square 11. Tickets cost Sk80. YOUNG Slovak visual artist Milan Prekop exhibits his large anonymous portraits in the display Paintings that was well received when it opened at the Bolek Polívka Theatre in Brno in January. The Bratislava native - who has illustrated books by Tomáš Janovic, Vladimír Klimáček and Ján Buzássy, among others - does not restrict his interest to the visual arts. He is also one of the original organizers of the well-known multimedia summer festival Hodokvas. The exhibition takes place in the Akcent Gallery at Kúpeľná 4 in Nitra until March 8.
