THE EAST OF EDEN exhibition features works by young artists who have graduated from or are attending the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University in Košice. Some have already presented their work at solo or joint exhibitions, but this is the first display that presents this young and lively scene as a group. The exhibition introduces artists Radovan Čerevka, Jaroslav Kyša, Matúš Lányi, Tomáš Makara, Peter Maukš, Boris Sirka, Ján Vasilko, Peter Vrábeľ, and Vlasta Žáková. Their works are on display in the Space Gallery at Lazaretská 9 in Bratislava until July 29. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday between 14:00 and 18:00. Admission is free. THE VILLAGE of Malatiná becomes the centre of traditional and contemporary culture in the Valašsko and Beskydy regions during the international Shepherds' Days folk culture festival, which runs July 14-15. The colourful programme includes exhibitions, competitions, folk performances, and hiking. There will also be a workshop on creating scarecrows and an exhibition of the best pieces created during its four regional competitions. On Saturday evening, the local amphitheatre will host a show by folk music and dance ensembles Valašský Vojvoda from Kozlovice and Bystrina from Zvolen. On Sunday, visitors can buy traditional handicrafts or taste samples of fine sheep milk products at a market. Farmers will arrive to compete for the most beautiful ram. Those courageous enough can join the whip cracking competition. A performance of Czech, Polish and Slovak folk ensembles will cap the festival with a show on Sunday afternoon.
