THE INTERNATIONAL festival of film, television, and video Febiofest 2004, the largest presentation of Czech film production in Slovakia, will run in eight Slovak cities from February 9 to 26.
The festival's 11th year will feature 10 sections consisting of 109 films from 16 countries. The News of Czech and Slovak Film section, in which most of the films' creators will personally introduce their films, dominates the event. The Czech TV section will premiere the 13-part Czech-Greek-Slovak documentary series Olympics, which captures the history, politics, and symbols of the Olympic games, including the preparation for this year's event in Athens. The Best of Febio will offer a retrospective glance at the works of Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski and Czech František Vláčil.
Other sections will feature Serbian films, HBO productions, American video films, and the best European films. The most popular section, Bonus: Novelties at the Slovak Filmclub Association, will include movies such as the Oscar-winning Nowhere in Africa by the German Caroline Link and the film In the Mood for Love by one of Hong Kong's best directors, Wong Kar-Wai.
The Czech comedy Nuda v Brne (Boredom in Brno) will open the festival at Bratislava's Polus City Center on February 9. The event will continue in Bratislava until February 15 at the Mladosť, ic.sk, and Nostalgia film clubs, and at the Czech Centre.
After Bratislava, the festival moves to Poprad and Prešov (February 16-18), Žilina (February 14-16 and 18), Košice (February 19-24), Nitra and Banská Bystrica (February 23-25), and Martin (February 23-26). For more information visit www.asfk.sk.
