THE ANNUAL Days of French Culture event in the eastern Slovak town of Košice started on March 12 and will last until March 20, offering jazz concerts, art displays, theatre plays, film screenings, and various lectures.
Clarinet player Louis Sclavis and his Band were scheduled to headline the festival's Jazz Days on March 12 and 13 at the GES Club, and francophone theatre ensembles from Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium, and Romania were scheduled to perform on March 13 and 14 at the SMER Theatre.
Jacques Pasquier, a famous sacred artist from Lower Normandy, presents his colour paintings with motifs of Košice and other towns at Intimate Slovakia, an exhibition held at the Eastern Slovak Gallery at Hlavná 27 until April 6. French philosopher Martine Leibovici will lecture on What Cultural Identity to Choose for Europe on March 16 at 15:00 at the J Bocatio Library at Hlavná 48. The screenings of French-language films on March 16, 17, 19, and 20 will start each day at 19:19 at the Cinefil filmclub.
The event will close with Georges Bizet's opera Carmen at the Košice State Theatre on March 20 at 19:00.
