Umag is a town on the Istrian peninsula in Croatia. Pizzťria Umag captures the flavor of the Balkans in its wonderful pizzas and with its delightful choices of Balkan style grilled meats.
This is not the place for soups and appetizers, as only a few are offered - it is the sixteen varieties of pizza that are the main attraction at Umag. There's even a vegetarián pizza with olives, cheese, mushrooms and corn (100 Sk). Two of our favorites are the Artičoka (110 Sk) and the ananás (pineapple -110 Sk). If your budget is tight, try the plain ceese pizza (80 Sk), as you will get a real meal since all the pizzas are good sized. If you want the works, we recommend the Pizza Umag (120 Sk) which seems to have a little bit of everything on it - including sardines.
If pizza doesn't suit your mood, then we are sure one of the Balkan grilled specialties will. Umag offers čevabčiči (spiced meatballs - 100 Sk) as well as the traditional pleskavica (ground meat - 100 Sk), razniči (skewered meat - 110 Sk) and kotlety (pork chops - 110 Sk).
If you have a guest and you both want to try all the specialties, order the dinner for two, a 400 gram serving of all of the above and then more for 240 Sk.
Umag also offers several traditional Slovak items, from the standard cuisine of pork, beef and poultry, ranging in price from 150 Sk steak and mushrooms to some offerings at 95 Sk. The cheapest item available is fried cheese (60 Sk). You can also temper the meat and bread composition of your main meal with one of the large salads, all of which are a mere 20 Sk, except for the delicious šopský salad(50 Sk). Only an ice cream dish is available for dessert.
We found the service to be very fast and friendly and especially enjoyed dining in the 32-seat non-smoking room. There is also a smoking room downstairs that seats 59 and limited seating upstairs for about 12 or so. Umag will also accept call in orders for pizza to be picked up. The pizza is ready quick so don't delay in picking them up or suffer cold "za."
