PAINTER Ivona Žirková, one of the most successful central European followers of the American hyperrealist movement of the 1960s, currently has an exhibition at the Bratislava SPP Gallery at Drevená 4 until February 29.
"The paintings by Žirková inspire respect," Eva Trilecová, the exhibition's curator, told the daily SME. "Her reverence to the knowledge and techniques of the old masters is rare."
Exhibited are twenty oil canvases that reflect reality the way photographs do - in the perfectionist technique. A graduate of the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Žirková won the Rector Prize for her thesis work.
