Steak House
This famous steak house near the Istropolis centre is perhaps the only place in the city where you'll be asked how you want it cooked. Dishes are named after US states like Arizona (with Roquefort sauce), Tennessee (with Jack Daniels whiskey) and Nebraska (with black beans). Try the fresh salmon steak, prepared in an oil and pepper baste, with the fried or boiled potatoes and sour cream. Wash it all down with Czech draft beer or Mexican bottled beer.

Café London
This tiny café and restaurant in the courtyard of the British Council is a trendy meeting place in the Old Town. Always crowded with business people at lunchtime, the café offers quick, delicious meals such as marinated chicken breasts, Greek salads or vegetarian quiche always served with a generous fresh salad. Enjoy the locally famous cappuccino and the wonderful first-class service.

Dubliner
Open seven days a week from early morning until late night, the Dubliner Irish Pub is the main meeting centre for expats in the capital city. Massive portions of great food and live music gives the Irish Pub a unique and festive atmosphere. Try the BBQ ribs and wash it down with a draft Guinness. Vegetarians can enjoy a great dish of vegetarian lasagne, best enjoyed with a side order of chips.

IKEA restaurant
This place won't redefine your eating habits , but it's just what you might expect from the Swedish IKEA - immaculately clean, simply laid-out and well-marked. Self-served roast beef or ham and cheese sandwiches are fresh, though lacking in taste. The smoked salmon sandwiches, on the other hand, are a special treat. At just 49 crowns, the fresh salad is crisp and tasty and the two choices of dressing are free.

Music Café Hysteria
One of three Mexican food restaurants in town, none of which are much good. Hysteria wins our pick as the best of the three because the portions are big. Count on hearty beef in the chilli as well as lots of beans in the Chimi-Changa, Quesadilla, and Tacos - three dishes which are all pretty much the same. Hysteria is a little tricky to find. Follow the signs outside Zimný Štadión around the back.

Chez David
A Kosher restaurant, Chez David is an outstanding place to enjoy a meal. Chef Martin Korbeli studied the craft in Israel and now teaches other Slovak chefs who want to learn Kosher cuisine. Sitting just under the castle, elegant Chez David offers baked duck, trout stuffed with salmon in a saffron sauce, and turkey in a sweet apple sauce. Austrian Kosher wines make up the wine list.
