INTERNATIONALLY renowned singer Jozef Ivaška will perform in Maryland, USA, November 10. Helen Cincebeaux, editor of Morava Krasna and Slovakia, and Helen Zemek Baines will display antique folk dress from the Czech and Slovak Republics during the intermission and after the concert.
Ivaška, a "man of a thousand songs", will sing in various musical styles, including opera, operetta, rock, pop, jazz, blues and folk.
Born in the northern Slovak town of Ružomberok, Ivaška was forced out of the country during communism. For the past two decades he has sung at the Metropolitan Opera in Baden, Austria. A highlight of his career was a performance there with Placido Domingo.
The event in the US is organised by the Czech and Slovak Heritage Association of Maryland and the Eastern European Club of Calvert Hall College, and takes place at the Calvert Hall College Campus, Towson, Maryland. For more information contact the Slovak Embassy in the US.
