THE 10th EDITION of the Week of Slovak Libraries opened on March 23 in the Slovak National Library in Martin. The event was organised by the Slovak Association of Libraries as a part of the activities known as March – Month of Books, the TASR newswire reported.
“Libraries for everyone” was the motto of the weeklong event from March 23 to 28 which aimed to promote libraries as valuable cultural and educational institutions for all generations of readers through various activities and programmes, including discussions with writers and special exhibitions.
In Martin, an exhibition called ‘From clay tablets to digitalisation’ was opened which shows the development of books and libraries from ancient times up to the present day, TASR wrote.
In Trnava, fines for the belated return of library books were forgiven as part of the Week. The Regional State Library of Juraj Fándly also used the occasion to announce a country-wide literary competition for new authors called Literary Salon Trnava as well as a poll for children to select their favourite book. The Public Library of Ján Boccatio in Košice also celebrated with workshops and discussions for readers of all ages, the SITA newswire wrote.
