The photographic exposition Budova(ť) pre umenie / Bau(t)en fuer die Kuenste / Building(s) for Arts presents Slovak visitors with the concert halls, stages, museums, exhibition halls and multi-functional halls of Lower Austria.
“This exhibition proves that the architecture makes space for art and is art in itself,” Austrian Ambassador to Slovakia Josef Markus Wuketich said at the opening of the exhibition on March 2, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
The selection shows 53 new buildings in various cities and towns Austria’s biggest state, which borders on Slovakia and has had a common history with it since 1918, apart from a break during communism and the period of the Iron Curtain. In fact, the opening of Lower Austria’s borders with the Czech and Slovak Republics since the end of that period has influenced the state’s cultural development to a considerable extent. Apart from aesthetics, the characteristics displayed in the exhibited works also include an expressive atmosphere of light and abstract space structures, TASR wrote.
Bruno Klomfar, a photographer of architecture, spent a year portraying cultural sites, his goal being to capture the functionality and everyday use of these buildings and to prove that they are not just empty aesthetic casings but rather exceptional objects with a strong effect on their users, i.e. visitors. The buildings include, among others, the Auditorium in Grafenegg, the Mobile Tribune in Haag, a cinema in Krems, and the historical Monastery Museum in Altenberg.
