ONLY days ago the thermometer was still showing temperatures below zero but now skiers could be forgiven for weeping as they watch weather forecasts predicting almost spring-like weather. The blanket of snow is growing thinner and there is even a possibility that resorts located at lower elevations will face restricted conditions. The weather will be very unstable. One day it might be snowing; the next there might be rain. However, new snow will fall at Chopok and in the High Tatras which, thanks to their height, are in a safe area.
Temperatures at altitudes of more than 1,000 metres above sea level should move between -3 and +4 degrees Celsius.
This week will bring a variety of interesting events. A music festival, Donovaly FEST, will take place under the Nová Hoľa slope at Donovaly on Saturday, January 31. The very next day, February 1, the same ski centre will welcome the best freestyle skiers in central Europe.
Good fun and music will also be on hand the same weekend in Vrátna, at the Rossignol Demo Tour.
Štrbské Pleso will offer something to look at: the 'guys on the boards' will be showcasing their art at the Interski slope during the well-known SKOČSY event.
