CZECH traveller and photographer Rudolf Švaříček has taken part in many expeditions and explored many different regions. He has travelled across Asia, taken a dog-team to the polar ice caps and across Asia, and driven a Tatra car through Africa. He is fascinated by the isolated ethnicities of Indonesia, particularly those on the western part of the island of New Guinea.
What he captured on his camera is on display in Bratislava's Slovak National Museum-Natural History Museum, at Vajanského nábrežie 2. The images are part of the Mysterious Indonesia: Tom-toms of Time exhibition prepared by the Livingstone Travel Agency, which Švaříček has owned since 1995.
The photographs talk about the striking beauty of one of the most preserved rainforests, and the fascinating life of its inhabitants. They show them at moments of sadness and happiness, and also the people's ever-present curiosity. The pictures depict the natives performing traditional rituals.
