Together 11 organisations using the platform at the DobraKrajina.sk donation portal will open one-day pop-up restaurants and bistros, searching for new supporters. They will allow people to peep into their kitchen, taste the food and talk to cooks, and also help with voluntary contributions.

The organisations will open their restaurants in seven different places around Slovakia: Bratislava, Trenčín, Prešov, Kokava nad Rimavicou (Banská Bystrica Region), Malacky (Bratislava Region) and Vinodol (Nitra Region).

“The primary goal of Restaurant Day is about earning money,” Zuzana Schaleková of DobraKrajina.sk wrote in a press release. “The restaurants function on the basis of a voluntary contribution – pay as much you want.”

The Human Rights League will present dishes made by refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and Somalia as a part of The Fear of the Unknown exhibition in the Kunsthalle in Bratislava. The Vagus association’s Reštaurácia pod platanom (The Restaurant under the Plane Tree) will serve the well-known street food Pad Thai.

Pancakes made in different ways will be prepared by the Človek v ohrození (People in Need) civic association who will add some “world-famous” ingredients, and the Prvá liga (First League) restaurant will be opened by the League Against Cancer.

Moreover, the inhabitants of Trenčín will be able to enjoy a relaxed afternoon in Zátoka pokoja (the Bay of Peace) with a “beach menu”. People in the town of Malacky will have the opportunity to fill up on some vegetarian specialities from the Vstúpte (Enter) association. The inhabitants of Prešov will experience the taste of “the other” with the Návrat (Return) civic association.

The Liešnica educational bee hive in Kokava nad Rimavicou will offer the possibility to compare the flavour of food from crops pollinated by bees and those which have not. In the village of Vinodol, people will taste Slovakia’s national food, bryndzové halušky (a kind of gnocchi with sheep cheese), the press release reads.

There is also an accompanying programme prepared for visitors.
