This week's premieres
Mr and Mrs Smith - Romantic comedy/action by Doug Liman. Perhaps best known as the movie that spawned Brad Pitt's and Angelina Jolie's supposed romance, this film tries to update the classic Hollywood scenario of combative lovers. The pair star as John and Jane Smith, a husband and wife who lead highly secretive lives: Neither is aware that the other is actually a deadly assassin. When they're each assigned to execute the same target, their thawing marriage grows fiery once again. Vince Vaughn plays one of John's colleagues.

House of Wax(Múzeum voskových figurín) - Horror by Jaume Collet-Serra. This loose remake of the 1953 Vincent Price picture has been discussed mostly as an opportunity to see the unavoidable Paris Hilton meet a grisly end. Though she's certainly the most famous (and infamous) cast member, Hilton joins a cast of hot young stars and starlets trying to leap into movies from the television ghetto: Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray, and Jared Padalecki. They play a group of kids stranded in a town that's totally abandoned except for a wax museum with exceptionally lifelike models, perhaps a little too lifelike.

Fantastic Four(Fantastická štvorka) - Sci-fi/Action by Tim Story. Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffud star in this latest adaptation of a Marvel comic. They join fellow marginal actors Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis as four astronauts who morph into superheroes after a space experiment goes awry. They soon use their powers to fight evil - most notably in the form of Doctor Doom (Julian McMahon), a narcissist gone very, very bad.
Monster-in-Law (Diabolská svokra) - Comedy by Robert Luketic. Jane Fonda returns to the big screen as Viola, a fallen news anchor who goes ballistic over her son Kevin's (Michael Vartan) engagement to Charlotte (Jennifer Lopez). When Charlotte realizes Viola aims to sabotage the impending wedding, the two women sharpen their claws.
