THE INTERNATIONAL One World film festival, which is travelling Slovakia, will stop in Žilina for four days. Focusing on human rights issues it will screen 26 documentaries at the Stanica Žilina-Zárečie cultural centre from December 9 to 12. One of the films is the Bratislava film festival's winner, Ethiopia: Live Aid, by Clifford Bestall. The film documents journalist Michael Buerk's return to Ethiopia 20 years after his original report on that country's dire state created huge concern in the developed world.
"One World reflects the urgent theme of human rights. The films are about suffering, hatred and cruelty, but also about love and goodness," said Martin Krištof, the organiser of the festival in Žilina.
The programme also includes discussions with several guests - missionaries and people who have been war refugees.
The festival, which is running in Slovakia for the fifth time, is organised by the People in Peril Association. According to the organisers, the more than 11,000 visitors who visited the festival in Bratislava are proof that human rights' issues still appeal to the people.
