LA CANTERINA, a two-act opera written by a young Joseph Haydn, premiered in 1767 in the Archbishop’s Summer Palace (today’s Government Office residence) in Bratislava. It is also the earliest opera composed by Haydn – then aged 33 – to have been preserved.
The short piece is ideal for beginning singers, which is why it has been chosen to be performed by young artists within a project organised by the Theatrica civic association.
The goal of the project is to boost the artistic development and experience of new artists who need practical experience. It will involve singers, musicians, set designers, directors and graphic artists who study at (or have recently graduated from) art colleges, Theatrica informed.
La Canterina will reopen at the Nové Mesto Cultural Centre, Vajnorská 21 in Bratislava, at 18:00 on November 28. It will mark the 245th anniversary of the opera’s premiere and introduce a new generation of opera talents.
