THE SLOVAK town of Prievidza is the third location to host the new World Art Games. The project features the works of more than 70 artists from 30 countries in a travelling exhibition, shown from March 21.
World Art Games is an organisation connecting the creators of various styles of visual art, film, music, dance, literature and gastronomy from more than 50 countries.
Slovakia is included in the organisation, and according to Slovak Committee president and Prievidza-based artist Roman Turcel, “If the ambitions of this project are fulfilled, then the World Art Games will mean for culture what the Olympic Games mean for the world of sports,” as quoted by the TASR newswire. “They are built on the same idea, connecting people regardless of their religion, gender, sexuality, state or any … political views or social status. The only common denominator is art,” Turcel explained.
The idea began with the World Art Games in Croatia in 2013, which featured a travelling art collection, which is on the road until 2015, touring various cities until the next Games are organised (Turkey, Portugal and Mexico have been mentioned as host countries). The first stop of this unique collection is the Hungarian city of Pécs, followed by Slavonski Brod, Croatia, and Prievidza, at the Artpoint Centrum in the Baník cinema. The show will open on April 15, Monday to Saturday between 10:00 and 20:00 and Sunday between 14:00 and 20:00.
