Cultural events to be held within the Košice 2013 project
are divided into three main chapters:
1. Key events – Cultural events of European and national
significance, initiated by the Košice 2013 project and
directly arising from key themes and project outlines.
High-level artistic and cultural events for the domestic
and European audience, bringing top European art and
strengthening the identity of European awareness. In
total about 25 events.
2. Significant events – A cycle of events of medium
significance taking place in Košice and eastern Slovakia,
which will have a special edition in 2013, or specific
events prepared with cooperating subjects in compliance
with the programme and thematic structure of the
Košice 2013 project. In total over 40 events.
3. Accompanying events – Other events, activities of a
smaller nature, not directly related to the themes and
concepts of the Košice 2013 project, or events which will
be included in the programme because of their national
or regional significance and beneficial effect upon
specific communities, implemented by individual
subjects (conferences, congresses, workshops,
cultural-social events).
The radius of action
The Košice 2013 programme will not only enliven Košice
itself, but also the whole region of eastern Slovakia and
will stimulate the entire Slovak cultural scene. The
programme’s structure is therefore divided into three
geographic circles.
1. Events in Košice and its surroundings – events to be
held in cooperation with partner cultural institutions
and in the existing network of facilities or in spaces
refurbished for the needs of the European Capital of
Culture and development of this area.
2. Events in eastern Slovakia – these include the
projects Pentapolitana and Terra Incognita.
3. Events beyond eastern Slovakia and abroad – with
the aim of exporting and promoting Slovak culture and
creating a new communication and cultural network in
the European context.
