Real Italian cuisine found at La Trattoria

Need a good, casual place for lunch or dinner? Located behind the Mamut beer hall, this Italian eatery is ideal. A very good selection of pizzas, pastas, and meat and fish dishes, as well as Italian desserts are available. Italian wines are also served. La Trattoria offers a 10 percent discount between 15:00 and 18:00 or if you have a coupon from the travel guide Spectacular Slovakia, as well as a daily 100 Sk menu including soup, half a pizza and a dessert. This innovative pricing policy makes La Trattoria a good value. The restaurant seats 80, and the service is attentive and friendly. Though the decor is nothing special, the blue and yellow table settings are pleasant and the use of planters divides the room so there is an element of privacy. Best of all is the smell of pizza cooking in a wood fired oven.

We began with the salad bar, with over a dozen items and three dressings. The ingredients are fresh, and the selection plentiful (50 Sk) There are 15 pizzas ranging from suchá (dry) pizza(10 Sk) to the pizza with prosciutto and artichokes (99 Sk) Or order the pizza of your choice, paying 58 Sk for the basics and adding 13 Sk for each of any 15 toppings. Paul had Pizza Ciao (77 Sk) with cheese, bacon oregano, tomato sauce, peppers, onions and capers which came already cut into portions and tasted delicious.

If you are not up for pizza, try any of the fresh pasta dishes ranging from 60 - 114 Sk. Madeline tried the tagliatelle with salmon (107 Sk). This coral-colored dish had a creamy sauce and flavorful chunks of fresh salmon. They served a half portion at our request.

The meats are also worth trying. Our dining companion had a marinated grilled turkey breast which was tender and juicy (130 Sk). Meat dishes range from 97 to 346 Sk for Chateaubriand for two, this also being the most expensive item on the menu.

The fish and seafood offerings are substantial and include among others, sole (116 Sk + 7 Sk for each additional 10 grams), grilled small shrimp (175 Sk), and grilled salmon (150 Sk + 9 sk for each additional ten grams). The only disappointment was dessert. The palacinky were not fresh, which was a shame, because it looked great with a huge portion of fresh fruit (40 Sk).
