UNDOUBTEDLY the most popular peak in the country is the national symbol of Slovaks, Kriváň peak, with its crooked silhouette. One that closely follows in popularity is the Rozsutec peak in the Malá Fatra mountain range.
Rozsutec is popular not only due to its impressive and easily accessible top, but also because of its historical and folkloric significance. The peak, as well as the Vrátna valley below, are in the region that gave birth to the Slovak national hero Jánošík, the legendary Slovak "Robin Hood" who "took from the rich and gave to the poor". The legend has it that the surrounding rocks and ravines hide the treasures he stole from wealthy aristocrats.
The postcard depicts people raking hay, an activity still visible in Slovakia's countryside, but with some different attributes. Women do not wear folk costumes anymore and such a wooden carriage can be found rather in a museum than in a field. These props have disappeared from "normal" life not a long time ago when this postcard was taken in 1958.
