The World travel guide Lonely Planet has published a book called Ultimate Eatlist that celebrates good food on the journey, Fičí wrote.

Chef and presenter Adam Liaw and foodblogger Leyla Kazim ranked the 500 greatest gastro experiences based on the favourite and the most authentic gastro experiences of travel experts from Lonely Planet, Fičí reported.

They made their decisions based on the taste of the food, its cultural significance or special atmosphere related to its serving or the place where it is served, Fičí wrote.

Two from Slovakia

The Slovak national dish, sheep cheese dumplings (bryndzové halušky) scored in the first half of the ranking at number 225. The authors of the book advise people to enjoy “the savoury taste of this filling plate of potato dumplings covered with sheep cheese and sprinkled with pieces of roasted bacon” together with beer in Bratislava Old Town at the Modrá Hviezda restaurant, Fičí reported.

Moreover, potato pancakes, described as “a Slavic potato addiction", scored 488th. Potato pancakes are loved by eastern European countries but specifically by Czechs and Slovaks, the authors wrote, according to Fičí.

The book describes how every visit to a local household ends up with a serving of potato pancakes or loksa, a salted pancake . The authors do not recommend any specific restaurant because the best ones are those made at home. You should definitely wangle an invitation to someone’s home and make big eyes at the cook, Fičí reported.
