SPRING has arrived in full force. Every Slovak ski resort has felt it, and the lower-altitude ones have already stopped operating. But on slopes above 1,000 metres people can ski until Easter. This week, the weather will fluctuate and be typical for April – unsettled cloudy weather with rain and temperatures between zero and 8 degrees at 1,000 metres.
A sudden change is predicted for Easter, with Arctic air pushing temperatures down to minus 4 degrees, and about 10 centimetres of snow.
Most resorts are now open only at weekends, so it is worth checking on the operation of ski lifts and general opening hours before you set off for the slopes.
After Easter, only the Vrátna-Chleb, Štrbské pleso, Jasná, Lomnické sedlo, Martinské hole and Zverovka-Spálená resorts, where there is still expected to be large amounts of snow, will remain in operation.
