The perfect weather creates a dilemma - to ski or to rest?

GENEROUS snow over several days in the mountains has led to great ski conditions. Everywhere you go conditions are ideal and with the current sunny weather skiing is simply fantastic.
The first wave of the season is over and the ski centres have fewer visitors. As well as flying down the slopes you can stop for a mug of mulled wine and rest in the sun. Or why not take the adrenaline challenge of the Slovak Freeskiing Challenge 2006 at Donovaly on January 21? Here, the best ski-acrobats from Central Europe will show off their incredible stunts (For more information see page 10).
If you prefer something more peaceful, try out brand-name skis you have dreamt of but could never afford to buy at Snow Paradise Veľká Rača Oščadnica on January 22. Or you may prefer to encourage youngsters at the junior Slovak Cross-Country Champion-ships at Park Snow in Štrbské Pleso on the same day.
Good news for skiers is that the Martinské hole resort decided to open the season and offers almost two metres of snow. However, the resort is only accessible by car. The old chairlift that used to carry skiers up the hill is out of order.
