Slovak academy exhibits in Munich

There are many ways to celebrate an anniversary, with a quarter of a century being one of the milestones.

The way the S+M+L_XL Metal and Jewellery Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava chose is, rather than a feast in a closed family circle, a public event bringing joy and benefit to many: the exhibition called Constellation offers, between March 11 and June 11, an exhausting overview of the works of both the students and lecturers of the studio, the Academy informed.

The S+M+L_XL Metal and Jewellery Studio, established in 1992 by renowned jewellery maker, Anton Cepka, and since 1995, taken over by Karol Weisslechner, architect and jewellery maker, has produced fifty-three graduates.

The current exhibition at the Pinakotheke der Moderne in Munich. documents and covers the very creative cosmos – hence the name Constellation – of the students’ and teachers’ work and offers an insight into the dynamic development of crucial ideas and concepts in contemporary jewellery and beyond. It also offers a glance into the creative brainwave processes which take place during creation itself. The goal is to visualise the study or the type of learning which ranges from pragmatic and concept-based tasks to experimental and even emotional, intuitive works. The study plan ranges from jewellery to architecture. It is part of the retrospect exhibition of Norwegian jewellery maker Tone Vigeland, Weisslechner informed.

The exhibition will show – in a selection that respects the specific space of Pinakothek – the intensive oeuvre of constellations that draw attention to the cosmos of 25 years in the S+M+L_XL Metal and Jewellery Studio, presenting the works of lecturers Karol Weisslechner, Matúš Cepka, and Kristýna Španihelová, as well as that of 33 students.
