Since July 29, this feature, enabling to read signs or menu in restaurants when travelling, has been enhanced in several Asian and more European languages, including Slovak.
The popular and wide-spread feature can be used even without internet connection, only through a package of two Mega-bites to be downloaded, concerning each language.
We are focused mostly on travelling, and we want people to be able to communicate in foreign languages and understand signs or menus, Google product manager Julie Cattiau – who is responsible for the app, with software engineer Otavio Good – says, as quoted by the Sme.sk website.
The biggest problem with Slovak was its special consonant “ť”, as its mäkčeň sign resembles an apostrophe.
So far, the new service works only coupled with English, Slovak-English, to Thai-English, and vice versa. It is available in apps for the iOS and Android operating systems. It is based on instant neuron networks which seek to simulate the operation of the human brain.
