ALMOST a year after the opening of the new building of the Slovak embassy in Washington, the team of archtects which built it - Michal Bogár, Dušan Fischer, Ľubomír Králik, Peter Lizoo and Ľudovít Urban - returned to the scene of the crime.
They came to introduce a new exhibit in the building of architectural works they had done previously, both as individuals and in concert. The exhibit has two main parts: large visual panels profiling past projects, and an artistically-rendered photo-documentary of the finished embassy building.
The first part of the exhibit is located in the embassy's 'small gallery', which as of December this year should be renamed the Koloman Sokol Gallery in honour of the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Slovakia's most important 20th century artists. The occasion will also be marked by an exhibit profiling Sokol, the first of its kind in the US. The second part of the current exhibit can be found in the various conference spaces of the embassy.
The exhibited panels show the diversity of works by Slovakia's middle generation of architects. The exhibit, as well as the impression the embassy building makes in the context of its surroundings, shows that Slovak architects include mature artists whose projects have become an integral part of modern Slovak architecture.
The current exhibit is open to the public on embassy workdays until the end of June.
