THE SLOVAK film The Unfulfilled Promise captured the top award at the Jewish Film Festival in the United States in the feature film category. The film had its world premiere on April 25 at a sold-out theatre in Los Angeles. The top award at this festival is decided by a vote of the audience and The Unfulfilled Promise garnered the highest total among all 30 movies shown at the festival, scoring 4.8 of the possible 5 points.
According to the PR and marketing manager of SPI International Elena Pančíková, “[the film] drew even more attention and was more impressive than the opening of the eagerly awaited film Jump starring Patrick Swayze,” as quoted by the SITA newswire.
The Unfulfilled Promise, directed by Jiří Chlumský, has been showing in Slovak cinemas since April 30 to an audience of more than 8,000 viewers so far. The movie is based on the real story of a Jewish boy, who thanks to his resolve and risk-taking, as well as serendipity and good fortune, survived World War II. The real boy, now 83 years-old, is Martin Petrášek who currently lives in the United States.
