SLOVAK film legend, director Peter Solan, died on September 21. The culmination of his creation came in the 1960s when he shot movies like Boxer a smrť (The Boxer and Death; 1962), Prípad Barnabáš Kos (The Case Barnabáš Kos; 1964), Kým sa skončí táto noc (Before This Night Ends; 1965), and Dialogue 20-40-60 (1968), on which he collaborated with Polish directors Zbyněk Brynych and Jerzy Skolimowski.
In the 1970s, he made only short films, for political reasons, and returned to feature films in 1979. Soon afterwards, he stopped making movies and became the chair of the committee for cinematography and video of the state culture foundation Pro Slovakia. Solan received several awards for his lifelong work and contributions to Slovak cinematography. In 2013, he received the state Order of Ľudovít Štúr of III for special merit in furthering Slovak culture.
Several of his movies were released by the Slovak Film Institute on DVD with English subtitles.
Solan died at the age of 84 on September 21, 2013.
