SLOVAKIA will be represented at the International Film festival Cannes 2014, though, not in the main competition, but in the film market Marché du Film.
The film market is aimed at presenting what has been shot recently in national cinematography, and Slovakia will share a pavilion with the Czech Republic at the Cannes market International Village for the 11th time. The pavilion is an information point for foreign professionals and a meeting point for Slovak representatives in Cannes who are present at the festival (taking place between May 14 and 25), the Slovak Film Institute (SFÚ) informed.
The films to be screened at the “film market” include Czech-Slovak-German co-production Fair Play (directed by Andrea Sedláčková), and trailers to movies that are in post-production now, like Places (Místa CZ-SK, directed by Radim Špaček) and Children (Deti, SK-CZ, directed by Jaro Vojtek). The ‘Short Film Corner’ at the film market will offer Alter (SK, Bruno Osif), while the Doc Corner, specialising in documentaries, will offer the film Normalization (Kauza Cervanová, SK-CZ, directed by Robert Kirchhoff).
Part of the Marché du Film is also the project Producers on the Move, and Slovakia will have a representative there, too, in Mátyás Prikler, who directed the recently distributed Slovensko 2.0 film and who is now producing Children and Mirage (SK-Hungary, directed by Szabolcs Hajdu), two films that are in post-production.
“This is a good chance to make new contacts,” Prikler said about the project. “The advantage is that it seems they will organise a programme for us, and it is then up to us and our lucky constellation whether we manage to establish some kind of new cooperation and arrange important meetings, or not,” he said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
