SLOVAK fashion designers Blažena Ostrovská and Jitka Klett presented their work at the ninth year of Slovak Fashion Night that took place for the first time during New York Fashion Week. The event, held in The Attic Rooftop in Manhattan and promotes Slovak fashion each year, attracted Slovak and US guests, as well as fashion experts and the media, the SITA newswire reported on September 7.
Ostrovská, the winner of last year’s New Faces of the Fashion Scene, part of Bratislava Fashion Days, came with her unusual collection, titled Štefánik, inspired by one of the most significant personalities in Slovak history, General Milan Rastislav Štefánik, a politician, pilot, scientist and diplomat. It features female models with masculine elements.
“I live my dream,” Ostrovská said, as quoted by SITA. “For a designer, it is a great feeling to present [the models] here, in the centre of world affairs in New York, at such a unique forum.”
Though the young designer’s collection may have had an element of risk, she nevertheless made a great impression and the audience appreciated it, said Ľubica Surkošová, president of the +421 Foundation and organiser of Slovak Fashion Night, as reported by SITA.
Ostrovská’s collection was accompanied by accessories by Dusan Stevlik, who specialises in artistic processing of stones found at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The audience expressed the most interest in his collection of futuristic engagement rings of the 22nd century.
“If at that time marriages will still happen,” Stevlik commented, as quoted by SITA.
Jitka Klett presented her haute couture collection with original printing and glittering details in the form of small sewed stones.
