South Korean artist wins international piano competition

SOUTH-Korean piano player Su Yeon Kim won the eighth year of the International Piano Competition of Johann Nepomuk Hummel held on September 20 in Bratislava.

SOUTH-Korean piano player Su Yeon Kim won the eighth year of the International Piano Competition of Johann Nepomuk Hummel held on September 20 in Bratislava.

The final round was attended by three young piano players: Agapi
Triantafyllidi from Greece, Michael Davidov representing Spain and Israel and Su
Yeon Kim, the TASR newswire wrote.

The three finalists performed the works of Ludwig van Beethoven with the orchestra of the Slovak Philharmonic, conducted by Rastislav Štúr.

After their performance, the seven-member international committee, composed of world renowned piano players and teachers and chaired by Pavel Gililov from Germany, picked the winner. Triantafyllidi placed second and Davidov third.

The competition took place under the auspices of Culture Minister Marek Maďarič.
