THE OLD Market-Hall / Stará Tržnica is starting to liven up, with more and more events occurring in this venue on the SNP Square in Bratislava. A new regular event called Nedeľná Paráda (Sunday Parade) will be launched, with the first edition taking place during the festival [Fjúžn] on April 13.
This (international) community event is organised in cooperation with Nadácia Milan Šimečka and many other non-governmental organisations, companies and volunteers, one of the organisers, Illa van Oijen from Aliancia Starž Tržnica said.
This edition will offer a multicultural market; reading table/book exchange point for expats;
live theatre performances in English (at 15:00, the Bridgin' Drama company: Kukucheers); international food tasting and live cooking by the Jamie Oliver Ambassadors Janica & Aneta; circus workshops for kids from 3 with Cirkusová Škola KUSKUS; workshop "Post from Stará Tržnica" by "Bol Raz Jeden Človek" and the club of philatelists; presentation of the new "local money" ŽIVEC, by the famous circus company Argola; "Jamsession", starting at 16.00.
There will also be the recycling point Paráda! that is ready to take in old stuff (toys, things for the kitchen, clothes, small furniture, etc) and give them a new home. For a voluntary contribution one can take something home, and the money raised will go to the official collection for Stará Tržnica's leaking roof. More information can be found on dobrakrajina.sk.
"Sunday parade is an island of positive deviation where you can meet people from all over the world, who decided to live in Slovakia," van Oijen said. "The goal of the community Sunday is also to include people who are many time left out of the social system: the handicapped, unemployed and retired. We will be exchanging foreign literature, or post stamps, create our own postcards in a workshop led by sheltered workshops, learn how to make a salto, and much more, all under one roof."
Admission is free, but a donation -- whether by bringing stuff or by donating spare change -- is welcome.
