TWENTY-ONE young Slovak artists and scientists will receive grants totalling Sk2 million within the Talent of New Europe project.
On February 15, a jury selected the most gifted children for the first year of the project by the Central European Foundation. More than 250 children had applied.
Nine-year-old pianist Zuzka Šabíková is the youngest Talent of New Europe. Even though she has only been playing for two years, she is a mature musician who has won competitions that involved much more experienced peers.
Dominik Štefanko is an 11-year-old chemist and physicist who has already been accepted to university.
Twins Oliver and Rastislav Rovný have been involved in environmental research since they were 14 and have achieved some considerable and unique results.
And young astronomer Ľubomír Urbančok has made observations that have caught the interest of NASA.
Talents of New Europe is supported by the Slovnaft oil refinery. It was launched in August 2007 and is open to children aged 8 to 18 who have proved their talents in Slovakia or abroad.
