THE 6th International Festival of Francophone Film Bratislava will take place from March 17 to 26 at the Istota Cinema in Karlova Ves.
Annually organised by the French Institute in Bratislava, the festival's traditional week-long duration has been extended to ten days this year. As usual, the event will feature the Festival's Night, during which films are screened until early morning. In a break from previous years, this year is non-competitive: The only prize will be the Audience Award.
During the 10 days, visitors can see over 40 films of various genres that have not yet been distributed in Slovakia. The Oscar winner in the Best Foreign Language Film category, Les invasions barbares (The Barbarian Invasions) by the Canadian director Denys Arcand, will open the festival. The Best Swiss Fiction Film 2003, On dirait le sud, will close the festival in the presence of its director, Vincent Pluss.
The National Evenings will introduce the five individual francophone countries participating in the festival. Visitors can meet representatives of Canada on March 18, Belgium on March 23, Burkina Faso on March 24, France on March 25, and Switzerland on March 26. Apart from these countries, the festival will also screen films from Tunisia, Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, and Romania.
Tickets to one screening cost Sk60, to three screenings Sk160, and to five Sk230. Admission to the Festival's Night costs Sk200. A festival pass costs Sk480.
