THE BEST Slovak ballet dancers will be awarded The Philip Morris Ballet Flower Awards, at the premiere of the ballet Le Corsaire January 28. For the first time the event is taking place under the auspices of the Slovak president, Ivan Gašparovič.
The 2004 nominees are Roman Novitzky and Andrej Kremz, both soloists at the Slovak National Theatre (SND) Ballet. They are nominated for their stunts performed in the ballet Spartacus. Novitzky also caught attention for his performance in Caligula.
Klaudia Bittererová, for her portrayal of Frýgia in Spartacus, and Jozef Marčinský, dancing the roles of Pilot in Little Prince and Simon in La Fille mal Gardee, will compete for the title of most significant talent of 2004.
The Philip Morris Ballet Flower Awards are distributed to dance artists in several European countries. The first time these prizes were awarded was in Finland in 1977. Slovakia started the tradition in 1995 and its first laureate was Jozef Dolinský, Jr.
