The best of Dutch and Flemish culture is being presented in Slovakia under the brand Year of Orange Culture, organised by the department of Dutch studies at Comenius University in Bratislava.

The initiative is based on two facts: in 2016 the department celebrates 20 years since its establishment; and both the Netherlands and Slovakia hold the presidency over the Council of the European Union in 2016.

The initial idea was to unite the Dutch and Slovak culture initiatives and offer them to the Slovak public. The aim is to promote one crucial cultural, language or literary event and several accompanying happenings every month, the TASR newswire reported in January 2016.

The Year of Orange Culture started on January 23. Among the first events was the Akkoord concert on January 25, which also launched the Dutch presidency over the EU Council, and the What City? Forum Our Street conference on January 27, TASR wrote.
