ROLAND Schimmelpfennig's play Die Arabische Nacht (The Arabian Night) directed by Martin Čičvák is a strong candidate for the Slovak theatre's Dosky 2004 awards in five out of eight categories, the daily Pravda reported. The awards will be announced during the Theatrical Nitra festival on September 24.
Last season Čičvák's work met with great critical acclaim. Apart from The Arabian Night, which is being performed at the Slovak National Theatre, he also directed Edward Albee's The Goat, and Who Is Sylvia? at the Aréna Theatre. With these two plays Čičvák is competing for best work and best director awards with opera director Martin Bendik. The main protagonists of the Albee play, Juraj Kukura and Emília Vášáryová, are candidates for the best actor and actress awards. The Slovak National Theatre's operas, Duke Bluebeard's Castle and Alcina, compete in three categories.
