The upcoming weekend of April 26-27 will offer the best way to explore the Slovak capital and get a closer look on its history, culture, architecture and many more.
Bratislava City Days will symbolically open the city's doors once more to residents and visitors alike on Saturday at 09:00 at the Primate's Palace. The event commemorates the occasion, when King Ondrej III granted Bratislava its municipal privileges in 1291. This period was also connected to election of the town mayor.
The programme of this year's 22nd edition includes dozen upon dozens of individual events scattered throughout the centre and the wider city. You can find the full programme here. Most of the events are free of charge, they are family friendly and barrier-free as well.
During the weekend, many of the buildings that are usually unavailable to the public will open, including cultural and technical monuments and architecturally valuable buildings throughout the city such as the cellars of the Rómerov Dom, which will be available for the first time, the interior and basement areas of the Slavín monument, the tugboat Šturec, or the Klarisky monastery. The Sad Janka Kráľa city park will play host to sports and educational activities, with the latter linked to the Earth Day. If you ever wanted to try skateboarding or parkour, this is the place to be.
The event will also see a return of the legendary Propeller ferry on the Danube, allowing for a unique ride between both river banks and see the city from the river.
Although most of the programme will be in Slovak, there will be a few tours that cater to foreigners. For example, on Saturday at 14:00, this sightseeing tour will be in English. Don't forget to make a reservation.
You can also taste wine in the historic cellar at Michalská Street throughout both weekend days for free, no registration required.
