WINTER is over. Most resorts closed last weekend, April 9 and 10. Those who love spring skiing, however, can still enjoy slopes in the High and Low Tatra mountains and in Martinské hole. At Lomnické sedlo last weekend, I experienced well-groomed slopes but as the sun got stronger, snow eventually turned to slush. During the spring, snow freezes at night and then melts gradually during the day. Conditions are best during the mid- to late morning, after the machine-groomed surface has begun to melt and corn snow appears but before the corn crystals turn to mush. Consider purchasing a morning half-day ticket to maximize your pleasure and minimize cost. Also, be sure to call the resort before travelling since many are operating on reduced schedules or have closed for the season. SNOW CONDITIONS/ PRICES
Lomnické sedlo: 300 cm - very good (Sk400/€10). Štrbské Pleso:160 cm - very good (Sk450/€11). Jasná-Chopok: 50-150 cm - good/very good (Sk490/€12.5). Martinské hole: 75 cm - very good (Sk330/€8.5). Zverovka: 90 cm - very good (Sk580/€14.5). Count that prices can be changed depending to snow conditions. Snow season in Lomnické sedlo will be closed in May 8.
WEATHER
After a cold spell and snow/rain showers, the weather will turn milder on Wednesday with temperatures above 1,000 metres ranging from -2 at night to +8 during the day.
