Have you moved to Slovakia and are unsure about dress codes and what to wear for a more or less formal event? The dress code might vary from country to country. Here are some stylists’ bits of advice on how to navigate the styling conventions in Slovakia.
Theatre
When heading to the theatre, firstly think if a performance is a premiere, gala night or just ordinary performance. In general, when going to the national theatre pick a more formal outfit; a less formal would be enough in smaller theatres, stylist Adriana Čížiková advises.
For opera or ballet in the Slovak National Theatre, the best option for men would be a dark suit and white shirt with either a tie or bow tie. Women have more options again: a cocktail dress, long dress or elegant evening suit, Čížiková said.
For other theatres the dress code is less strict. Men wear pants and a shirt; a blazer is optional and a tie is not necessary. Women dress up in elegant pants and a blouse, wear heels or closed toe sandals, Čížiková noted.
“Men definitely shouldn’t wear shorts, sneakers or anything sporty, and women a short dress or skirt, beach dress and shoes,” said Čížiková, adding that denim is not appropriate either.
