HEAD OF the film events department of the Slovak Film Institute (SFÚ) Viera Ďuricová will get a prestigious French order in November, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, granted by French Culture Minister Aurélie Filippetti. She is the only foreigner to receive it this year, the SFÚ informed in a press release.
Ďuricová will get the Order for her involvement and merits in French culture. It is one of the main awards granted by France. Every year the Council of Arts and Literature proposes three names to get the order, with one going to a foreigner.
Ďuricová graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University in Bratislava with a specialisation in the Slovak and French languages. In 1988 she started to work at the foreign department for the Slovak Film Production, and since 1991 she has been working for the SFÚ.
The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres has already been awarded to several Slovak personalities, such as writer Albert Marenčin, actor Milan Kňažko, literary critic Ján Števček, artist Ester Šimerová Martinčeková, and translator Michaela Jurovská, SFÚ informed.
