Well-known Slovak jeweller makes crowns for ski World Cup event winners

Fans hoping Slovak skier Petra Vlhová will end up wearing it.

Winners of the upcoming World Cup ski races in Jasná resort on January 20-21 will take home a specially designed crown sporting more than 1,000 crystals.

Jeweller Petra Tóth has made four of the crowns, each inspired by the traditional folk costumes of Liptov villages.

She and her team visited the villages of Liptovské Revúce, Liptovská Lúžna and Liptovská Osada, northern Slovakia.

"We chose something from each of their folk costumes, which we then adapted to the visuals of the World Cup. They sport bold, refracted colours, as if you are looking at the world through ice crystals," said Tóth.

Each crown weighs 474 grams, is made of gilded brass, hand-painted and decorated with Czech crystals, its colours distinctive and playful.
