Jonathan Eddy, a British teacher now based in Prešov, recently visited Košice to talk about England and the language. His teaching journey in Europe began in 1999 in Poland, where he worked for six years after applying through a London agency.
In 2005, while leading a course in England for Slovak teachers, he met his future wife. By Christmas that year, he had moved to Slovakia — a path he says many foreigners follow “because of their wife”.
He believes English is tied to economic opportunity, but also notes a cultural block in Britain saying people don’t feel the need to learn other languages because they already speak the one everyone is learning.
