There’s a lot to experience in the natural environment around Slovakia’s capital – for those willing to explore by bike.
How would you like to take a trip that reveals great views, stops by interesting places, includes a pit-stop at a renowned langoš joint, and allows you to cool off on a hot sunny day with a lake swim (or two)?
All of this is within easy reach for recreational bikers, including families with children.

What you need to know
The trail described below is approximately 35 kilometres long and can be covered in a few hours, depending on your pace. Although that may sound long, there is next to no elevation gain.
You will cover most of the trail on a concrete path, with earth and gravel paths making up some sections. The condition of the latter may depend on the weather; for example, if it has rained in the days before you set out, you’re likely to come across some pools of standing water. However, the route is easy to adjust, and you can opt only for concrete paths; these will be pointed out.
Although there is some shade – especially when going along the Little Danube – some sunscreen will definitely be necessary, particularly on sunny days.
With the exception of a small section on the public road in Ivanka pri Dunaji – which typically has light traffic at weekends – the route is basically traffic-free.
And finally, if you want to go for a swim – and there are a few options – don’t forget your bathing suit.
Along the calm Little Danube
A good place to start the trail is the north (city) side of the cycle path under Bratislava’s Harbour Bridge (Prístavný Most). You’ll be following the R27 cycle path, also known as Malodunajská Radiála, which actually starts at Šafárikovo Námestie square in the centre.
