MARCH has already jumped into its second half, but winter still rules in the mountains. In ski centres 800 metres above sea level or higher, the snow blanket is growing thicker as more snow is falling practically every day.
Next week will be wintry and we should count on temperatures of around –10 degrees Celsius at elevations above 1,500 metres in the second half of the week, when cold arctic air will reach the Slovak mountains. Though this cooling will be only temporary, skiers will be skiing on nice, fresh, natural snow. There's still some time to wait patiently before they can enjoy spring skiing with its sunshine and sunbathing.
An interesting event, the Slovak Cup Masters, will take place on March 21-22 in Vrátna, where the best former competitors in the Olympics and the world championships will show their skill and artistry. The Maestro Cup, a race for skiers with disabilities will take place at Skipark Ružomberok. In some ski centres, operations have already been limited to only weekends because of the lower number of visitors. Skiers should definitely check the web pages of ski centres they are considering visiting for up-to-date information about scheduled operations.
