We are completing our 19th year on the market in 2013 and thanks to our readers as well as partners from the diplomatic and business community we are able to continue covering different aspects of Slovakia for our devoted readers both in print and online.
This year we were also able to bring interesting guests to Slovakia such as Sig Gissler, the administrator of Pulitzer Prizes, and Abigail Goldman, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, who shared what we believe are the best of media traditions with their audience here in Slovakia.
Based on feedback from our readers, we have also changed the design of our Spectacular Slovakia publication and published its 2013 edition called “Bratislava City Guide” with a focus on the Slovak capital. Just as in previous years, we have trained students of the journalism school of Comenius University in Bratislava within our educational project ‘Get trained and than get published’ and part of their work, which was held to and met professional standards, was published in this travel guide.
Another project, ‘Reporting on diversity’, which we prepared with the support of the US Embassy in Bratislava, trained students and young journalists to report on ethnicity, gender, race, religion and diversity in general.
Like many in media we have faced the challenge of working on tight budgets while maintaining quality, credibility and integrity. As the only English-language newspaper in the region, we are continuously creating new programmes and products to help The Slovak Spectator preserve the most important journalistic values.
